Never seen the earth drop away from beneath my feet,
Felt the giddy heavenward rush of movement towards the clouds,
The antithesis of falling.
To float and watch the ground unfurl below me as I travel.
I have always wanted to see the tapestry flow below
As I traversed the world
Free of encumbrance, traffic, obstacles, troubles, obligations, responsibilities, pain.
Away from the self-forged shackles of family, job, hearth and home.
Always knowing my grounding was purposeful.
If I built a platform,
A place of solidity,
A safe and grounded place,
My fledglings would be able to fly free
As I never could
They would see sights I imagined, go places I dreamt of
And be more than I could ever be
Alas…my own life is the model they live
And what I was,
They have become
By giving up myself I have taught them to give up
Better I should have flown and had them follow me to glory
Then keep them safe and earthbound like me….
